Who is Kya Sand Burning Wasteland Community Forum NPC? Is it a registered NPO/NPC?
Kya Sand Burning Wasteland Community Forum NPC is a Non-Profit Company established for a single purpose: to stop the illegal dumping and burning of waste in and around the Kya Sands and Msawawa informal settlements.
The NPC represents families and businesses in Kya Sand and the surrounding areas — Fourways, Chartwell, Broadacres, Northriding, Northgate, Jackal Creek, Honeydew, Cosmo City, the Klein Jukskei River Valley, and everywhere in between.
It is S18A approved by SARS. Section 18A receipts for corporates are arranged via GivenGain.
Why do we need private security?
The responsible authorities are unwilling or unable to stop the burning. We are already in court to force action, but even if we win every application it will still take years before a court order makes them take over the sites.
A legal team from Norton Rose Fulbright and an experienced environmental advocate act for the NPC pro bono. The first case was won — forcing the City to do its own air-quality testing. The next stage of the court battle still takes time.
In the meantime the air is being poisoned. If we want the burning to stop now, the community has to fund a private security solution until the authorities are in a position to take over.
Do we need 24/7 security?
Yes. As soon as the security stops, the dumping and burning start again. There are at least 14 dump sites around Kya Sand that need to be held.
The community already proved this: a three-month Night Guard trial from 26 November 2025 to 26 February 2026 turned trucks away and stopped fires as they were reported. When funding ran out, the cover ended.
What are we raising for now?
The current published target is R85,100 a month for day guards from SCP Security (R74,000 plus VAT). That is the cover on the latest invoice to the NPC.
Night Guard previously gave a discounted community rate for the trial. Other security companies are welcome to quote via the WhatsApp group.
When will the security be back on the dumps?
As soon as monthly sponsorships cover the day-guard invoice. The sooner neighbours, companies and estates sponsor, the sooner the trucks are turned away again.
